Today’s Weigh-In: 430lbs

I’m down five pounds from last week! Whoo!

Sorry for the lack of blogging – I was at a conference / retreat of ministers from across the state the past couple of days. And though another pastor friend and I got the hook up on a really slick place to stay at, it didn’t have wi-fi. Ergo, no Will since Sunday.

But, while I was over at Seaside, Oregon I got to experience the wonder of the resort’s “fitness and activity center” in all its splendor. As lame as it might sound, I was actually pretty stoked heading down to the gym for my first time.. ever. And then, I was quite disappointed at what I saw. In truth, I didn’t know exactly what to expect, and I don’t have any real point of reference. Maybe I should just be entertainingly amused? Well, there was an eliptical machine, a few stationary bikes, two treadmills, and some kind of old weight training station with a number of built in stations in one enormous beast of a machine.

I guess it was state of the art back in the day. Heh.

But, I’m back in Portland again, checking the couple dozen emails I’ve racked up, and updating blogs. Then, hitting the gym tonight.

Five pounds? That’s a good feeling.

Ouch. It hurts so good. View Comments

Oddly enough, my forearms are what have been the most sore following my early workout this week. Now, following yesterday afternoon’s workout, it’s the ole forearms and biceps giving me trouble. It hurts so good.

Bench machine, press machine, lat pull down, row machine, biceps, tricep pull down, angled leg press, leg extension, leg curl, lateral raises. Fun.

Nothing too stirring to type out today, as I’m busy enough with the wild and wacky world of work. Transitioning between jobs and looking for another full-time gig doing design work. So, it’s portfolio redesign time today. Fun.

Gotta make sure I get some cardio in tonight as well. Gotta do the HIIT. Gotta.

See you all tomorrow.

Yes, I did in fact drop off the face of the earth. Thanks to all of you – blog friends and my amigos y amigas in the real world – who have kept getting on my case.

The past month and a half haven’t been real great on my end. While my time back in Oklahoma wasn’t particularly bad (didn’t eat too poorly, but not real great, and I only managed to get to the gym about once a week), I returned to Portland on the 5th of January.

Whereupon the wheels summarily fell off with delicious $2.99 Wendy’s Extra Value Meals.

I went to the hospital to get weighed on Tuesday, and I weighed 435lbs. Two pounds less than the beginning of December, which sucks. I have to look at the positive side, though, and say it’s good I didn’t pack on any holiday weight gain. Still I’m no more closer to Goal #1, and now I’m about sixty days out from it. Is thirty five pounds in sixty days even possible? Well, the give-up attitude I want to use is bull – time to man up and see if it is possible.

But, I’m back in the saddle, with no excuses. I hit up the gym yesterday, and will be going on Thursday, and then this weekend. I’ve settled on a full-body workout I think I’ll be happy with, but if not – there’s always room and time for changes, right? I would have liked to use more dumbbells, but the gym was absolutely packed when I went.

  • Bench Press Machine – 3×10 – 110lbs – I struggled to finish, but I did. More weight on Thursday.
  • Military Press Machine -3×10 – 95lbs – I did this in a combo set with the bench press and it beat the hell out of me. I barely got halfway through my final set.
  • Tricep Rope Extentions – 3×10 – 100lbs – pain, pain, pain, but I pushed through.
  • Lat Pulldowns – 3×10 – 135lbs – I need to dump a lot more weight on this.
  • Seated Row – 3×10 – 110lbs – Another combo set with the pulldowns, this were beastly. I barely finished.
  • Bicep Machine – 3×10 – 95lbs – As the last of my upper body / arms work, this was a pretty harsh set.

I haven’t been working my legs too much at all, with the exception of a seated leg press back in Oklahoma. What a boneheaded move! Time to remedy that, eh? As I was just trying out things, I didn’t want to overload myself the first go round. However, I know I can dump a significantly greater amount of weight onto my legs that what I did yesterday.

  • Seated Leg Press – 3×10 – 170lbs
  • Leg Extension – 3×10 0 145lbs
  • Leg Curl – 3×10 – 130lbs

So, back in the saddle, back to weight training, back to eating right. It’s time to quit being lazy, make time in my day, and get this done.
