Also, I grabbed some Subway (healthy! under 500 cal!) right before I went to weigh-in, but how much could a sub sandwich and Sun Chips throw me off?

This might be part of it, too. My weight normally goes up 2-4 pounds after a meal - especially if you had a drink with it, water or anything else.

Just make sure you're consistent with your workouts - the time of day that you do them. The eating will impact the weight in a LOT, so take a bit of comfort in that.

Even if you didn't lose weight this week, just keep at it. You'll hit plateaus - and remember, your body doesn't OWE you anything. Look at the big picture, and on longer term. It's a hard thing to do - trust me - but don't look too closely at the number on the scale. Just when you think it'll never go down again, it'll spiral downward. Just keep working hard.

the other possibility is that your body is gaining muscle weight. do you take measurements of yourself? that could be a good idea. sometimes, even though we're getting skinnier, our weight doesn't change much, because muscle weighs more than fat. just a thought. :) keep at it!! you can do it!!!

Well, I am not a religious man, but Carrie may have a point. WWJE (What Would Jesus Eat?)

Also, I have to disagree somewhat with Siscoe. I think the idea of "starvation mode" has been greatly overhyped by people trying to sell diet books. (Everyone wants to believe that eating too little is harmful.) The fact is, at 400+ pounds, if your body thinks you're starving, it's not working properly.

You need to quit eating the junk. Your workouts won't make up for less than ideal nutrition. You can't out-train your intake.

Salt. And patience.

Those two things may add up big.

I've also been thinking since I read your last blog post. Tell me off if I'm wrong here, but I noticed something that perhaps you're not seeing.

You wrote about how you were having trouble sleeping. That's okay, happens to everyone. However, you then 1) got into your car to drive around and 2) were having some great downtime with God then 3) had the junk food. So here's what I'm thinking: perhaps, in some way, you need to connect to this lifestyle spiritually. Perhaps it's by realizing that God did not grow this stuff you're putting in your body. If He didn't grow it, then were you truly meant to have it? I don't know how literal you take the Adam and Eve story, but we all know about the apple and the snake. The snake is fast food (it's addictive properties), and you've got to stop listening to it. It's only sending you down the path of evil. If you're not careful, that same snake's going to cause you to give up on this quest, and then, guess who's won? It definitely won't be God, who wants you to use your body as a temple. Think about Jesus in your heart. Does He want to have to wade through the plaque? (I know that's kinda literal for something that's symbolic, but I'm trying to get you to think here.)

Basically the point is that I'm starting to see self-destructive behavior. It's not so much in the fact that you allowed yourself to have the junk, but in the fact that you're allowing yourself to get so stressed out about it. It's in the fact that you're even debating making that turn into the drive-thru. It's in the fact that you took a spiritual drive and turned it into something that made you angry and stressed.

So it's time to turn that boat around. Don't worry too much right now about the weigh-ins. Don't kick yourself more about the late-night meal. Just plug. Start logging what you're eating, and keep kicking those workouts out. By doing that, the weight will move on its own. Because you can't control the weigh-in. You can only control your behavior, and that behavior includes attaching yourself to this battle spiritually.

I understand what kind of demons you're battling right now. No one is expecting perfection from you except you. Keep God in your breast pocket and Jesus in your heart, and know that He(they)'ll get you through this.

In Christ,
Carrie

Out of curiosity Will, about how many calories a day are you eating?

When you increase the amount of cals you're burning, you've gotta make sure that you're giving the body enough fuel. If you don't, your body quickly drops into starvation mode.

As well - breakfast is the meal that gets your metabolism running in the morning. If you don't eat it, your body puts itself in a starvation-like mode for the day. Which slows your metabolism down to a crawl. Which will cause you to lose no weight, and maybe even gain when you do 'slip-up', because now all of a sudden you've got all kinds of extra cals it wasn't expecting, and it hordes them to use at a later date.
