@Craig: Thanks, man. It's good to know that I can inspire people to believe that their own weight loss can be possible.
If I can do it, then ANYBODY can!
@Brandon & Beck: I always enjoy reading others' stories, especially when it's something that I have in common with them (e.g. weight loss). I figured it was about time I shared my own.
@Billy: What finally caused my weight loss efforts to "stick" (and being only eight/nine months in, I'm hesitant to even say that on one hand, but damnit, my resolve is rock solid - I'm not going back to that life) is a good question. I don't have a succinct, definitive answer.
The impulse to change my life (and the 200+ pounds of overweight flab that the life represented) began brewing in earnest in 2007. I started the blog in December, began talking a big game, and diddled the month away, effectively.
While I'm not competitive at all, I got a fire lit under my rear end after the first week's weight in when Ben doubled my numbers. As the fatter of the two of us by 25 pounds, I didn't want to lose to that schmuck!
And even when Ben stalled and quit, I was seeing some modest gains of a few pounds a week and knew that I could lose the weight if I tried.
Change was possible if I kept working. So here I am eight months later, still looking for the change.
This comment's way too long, so I may just blog about this more later this week!

One more thing I wanted to ask you. What do you REALLY think was the difference for you this time? We've all tried and failed at weight loss before, what made this time different? I'm sure it was more than just the bet...

How did you get past obstacles that would have previously had you elbow-deep in a bag of Doritos?

Great story man. You're a prime example of someone who got inspiration, and then passed it on.

And it took you a day and a half to polish off a 2-liter? I used to do that in an evening ;)

So inspiring, Will! It's great to watch you and others on their journey to skinny (or for some, their journey through skinny.

Thanks for the background. It's always interesting to see where everyone comes from and what leads them to where they currently are.

Congratulations again on your amazing weight loss so far. I'm just beginning my weight loss and you are inspiring me just as the FAT Coalition members inspired you earlier. Keep it up man!
